feed my starving children

July 30, 2009

Wild Harvest is at it again; however this time the team found themselves at Feed My Starving Children in Chanhassen, MN.

Feed My Starving Children is a non-profit Christian organization committed to feeding God's starving children hungry in body and spirit. Volunteers are utilized to hand-pack meals that are formulated specially for starving children. The food is then shipped to more than 60 countries around the world. Although Feed My Starving Children is a Christian non-profit organization one does not have to be Christian to pack or to receive the food.

During the introductory video we learned that nearly 18,000 children under 5 die from starvation every day. Feed My Starving Children is proud to say that 94% of all donations go directly to the cost of food. Each bag of food packaged holds six servings of a nutritious meal composed of vegetarian chicken flavor complete with 26 vitamins and minerals, dried vegetables, brown soy powder and rice. Given that this is a vegetarian meal it is an acceptable meal for starving children anywhere in the world.

We started our afternoon helping the organization catch up with labeling bags used to pack the food. You may or may not know that the Wild Harvest team is made up of some competitive individuals...so we had a pretty good run at labeling.

Next it was off to the old assembly line to package the food. It was "chicken, veggies, soy, rice"..."chicken, veggies, soy, rice" and by the time we were done we had packed enough food to feed 11 children for a year (19 boxes filled with 4,104 meals to be exact)!

Keep on the lookout for Wild Harvest volunteers to strike again this fall.
